Description

This indulgent BTS Cake (Better Than Sex Cake) is a rich, moist chocolate dessert layered with sweetened condensed milk, luscious caramel sauce, a fluffy Cool Whip topping, and crunchy Heath bar pieces. Simple to prepare with a boxed cake mix, this crowd-pleasing treat is perfect for celebrations and potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Base

  • 1 box Devil’s Food Chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients required by the cake mix (usually eggs, oil, and water; check box for specific amounts)

Filling

  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (16-ounce) jar caramel sauce

Topping

  • 1 (8-ounce) tub Cool Whip, thawed
  • 4 Heath bars, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan and Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray to ensure easy cake removal.
  2. Bake the Cake: Prepare the Devil’s Food cake batter according to the package directions for a 9×13 cake. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake as directed on the box.
  3. Poke Holes into Cake: Once baked and still slightly warm, use the round handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
  4. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the surface of the cake, spreading it so it soaks into the holes. Gently tap the pan on the counter to help the milk fill the holes completely.
  5. Add Caramel Sauce: Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the cake, ensuring it covers the entire surface and seeps into the holes. Spread gently with a spatula if needed.
  6. Chill the Cake: Place the cake into the refrigerator and let it chill for at least two hours. This allows the liquids to soak in and the flavors to meld.
  7. Add Whipped Topping and Candy: Once thoroughly chilled, spread the Cool Whip evenly over the top of the cake. Sprinkle generously with the chopped Heath bars for a crunchy finish.

Notes

  • It’s best to poke holes in the cake while it is slightly warm to prevent the top crust from crumbling.
  • Tapping the pan after adding the cream helps fill all the holes and eliminates air pockets.
  • The cake can be made a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator, making it ideal for parties and gatherings.
  • Feel free to substitute Heath bars with toffee bits or any favorite crunchy candy.
