Cookie Base
- 1 16.5 ounce tube sugar cookie dough
Frosting
- 1 can vanilla frosting
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- Orange food coloring gel, a few drops
Decoration
- Black decorator frosting
- Candy eyes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a round pizza pan generously with cooking spray—preferably one that contains flour to prevent sticking. Alternatively, you can use a 9-inch cake pan but keep in mind that it may require a longer bake time.
- Form and Bake the Cookie Base: Press the sugar cookie dough evenly into the bottom of your prepared pan to form a uniform layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 14-16 minutes if using the pizza pan. The edges should be lightly golden. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the cookie base to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
- Prepare the Frosting: Stir the pumpkin pie spice thoroughly into the can of vanilla frosting so that the spice distributes evenly. Then add a few drops of orange gel food coloring to achieve a warm, pumpkin-inspired hue, mixing well.
- Frost the Cookie: Once the cookie base has cooled, spread the pumpkin spiced-orange frosting evenly over the top surface, making sure to cover it fully and smoothly.
- Decorate the Spiderweb: Using black decorator icing, pipe concentric circles spaced about half an inch apart, starting from the outer edges of the cookie and moving inward toward the center. To create the spiderweb effect, take a toothpick and starting at the center circle, pull it outward through the frosting to the edge. Repeat this at evenly spaced intervals around the cookie to complete the web pattern.
- Add Finishing Touches: Optionally, add candy eyes to your spiderweb to enhance the spooky theme. Place them strategically on or near the web.
- Storage: Store the finished cookie pizza in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain freshness, or freeze it for up to one month if you wish to keep it longer.
Notes
- You can substitute the tube of sugar cookie dough with one pouch of sugar cookie mix prepared according to package directions or your preferred sugar cookie recipe.
- If you prefer to make your own frosting from scratch, you can use a vanilla buttercream or pumpkin spice frosting recipe.
- If you don’t have black decorator icing, you can reserve about 1/4 of the canned vanilla frosting and dye it black using food coloring, then use a piping bag to draw the circles and spiderweb.
